On the LG website for LG LST 4200A, it says

---------

Noise Free VCR Recordings with Simultaneous 480i Output

---------

What does it really mean ?

Can you watch one channel via DVI/Component on your HDTV and record SAME channel on the VCR (connected via Video/SVideo) ?

Or you can you record ANOTHER channel on the VCR while watching the HDTV (via DVI/Component) ? Can VCR tune to a different channel ?

For unattended recording from VCR, do you have to leave the channel on the STB as the VCR can't tune ?

Thoroughly confused ..

Thanks

Yes, this is what it means. The HDTV channel is downconverted to SD (480i) through s-video/composite.

Correct.

Leave the STB on the channel you want to record.

Program the VCR to tune to the LINE input when setting up an unattended timer recording.

Thats good to know. I need to find if the VCR can be tuned to LINE input for timer recordings. Anyway, I'm not planning to use VCR. I'm thinking about building a linux based HTPC which will act as a DVR.

http://www.linuxis.us/linux/media/howto/linux-htpc/

I already have a video capture card. I was thinking about buying a TV tuner card, but I guess I dont need a TV tuner as the LG will be my tuner.

Later on, will work on building a remote control which is plugged to the PC's serial port and will send IR commands to the STB to turn ON and change channels.

Later on, will a HDTV tuner card ( http://www.pchdtv.com ) and make the HTPC a HD-DVR :)

Will see how it goes !

(Or how long my wife can take it....)

Thanks
