Hi Folks,

I have a question regarding the calibration controls provided

by the new LG plasmas.

There is 20 point greyscale adjustment which would enable one to

achieve a ruler flat greyscale and also to achieve a perfect gamma curve.

It also has a 2D cms which although not that great than that of the

samsung plasmas would provide some control of the pri/sec points.

Why is it that there is very little discussion on LG plasma? Do these

controls really work or they interact like crazy with one another and

don't improve the picture at all?

I would assume with such controls the LG plasma should provide better

color accuracy than the samsung but that does not seem so because

nothing is talked about LG plasmas?

The 20 point gamma adjustment if it works seems to be even better

than that provided by lumagen.

Any input from calibrators experience on LG plasma appreciated.

I calibrated my LG 60PS11. The 20 Point grayscale calibration works quite well, but does take a long time to set. It took me a good part of the whole night to do it, and the results were visibly better. The CMS on the other hand did not work very well for me. It took a lot of tweaking to get the primaries (especially green) close, and when I did there were errors introduced in the intermediate saturation levels that I did not like. I've settled for default settings for the CMS for now as further readings will be needed to do some tweaking.

I've seen the calibration results from the TweakTV 2008 shootout for the LG 50PS60 with the same controls as my TV, and they were somehow able to get their colors a lot more accurate than me, so there must be a way to do it. Unfortunately they did not publish their settings, so I'll have to play around my TV a bit more before I call the CMS worthless. The reason LG PDPs do not get the respect here, is because even after full calibration the black levels are not going to be as good as the Panasonic PDP, and the colors are not going to be as accurate as the Samsung PDP. So overall the PQ is judged adequate but unspectacular. I however, prefer to keep the extra money and take the slight hit in that regard.
