I live in Bolivia, South America, and LG has released the model 42LH70, there's limited availability and I hadn't had the chance to see it yet. I can't find much info on it, since it has been released only in a few selected countries (including Korea).

Anyway, the specs sure seem impressive for a non LED LCD.

From the canadian site (can't post URLs yet, sorry):

1080p

120 Hz

2.4 ms response time (the canada site reports 2.7ms, while the regional one says the former)

Dynamic contrast 100,000:1

Bluetooth connectivity

S-IPS panel

39.7 mm thick (slim for a non LED)

Ambient light sensor

It's also known as Scarlet 2.0, The first scarlet looked pretty nice with the black and scarlet color, so the looks department is covered.

I'd like to know if anybody has seen this TV or any similar to this one and can share the insights.

The TV seems pretty good and we don't get many good ones over here, the best one currently is the Samsung series 6 LCD (LNxxA650), but its specs are inferior to this LG one.

I just picked up the Canadian version of this TV yesterday. The first TV I picked up was a toshiba 46XV645U. Not a bad looking set, great blacks, pretty good colours...but there was a stuck pixel in the upper right corner and some VERY back backlight bleeding from the same area that made watching movies very distracting.

I ended up buying the LG 47LH70 at $850 off at Best Buy. My first impressions are that the black levels are fairly average, colour is good as well as sharpness. Some motion blur even at 120HZ, but overall I'm fairly happy with the purchase. Having HD DivX ability as well as Bluetooth make this set a step above the rest of LGs TVs in this price range. A comparable TV is the LH55, which has 240Hz (which looks no different from 120Hz) instead of the Bluetooth and DivX.

Overall, I'd give the TV a 7 or 8/10. Recommended so far.

After using this tv for a few weeks now I'm fairly happy with it. Two complaints:

1) some minor backlight leaking from the corners when not viewing from directly in front of the tv.

2) pretty annoying problem when using a cable box hooked up via hdmi the audio isn't synced with the video to the point of being obvious. Works fine when running audio through my receiver.

Picture is excellent, though. Nice looking set too. Prob lg's best non- led tv.

I just picked this set up today. I had purchased the 47" but returned it as I felt it was too large for my (apartment) living room.

This was an upgrade from a 40" Samsung that was about 2 years old. The Samsung (LN40A550) was an awesome tv, but I wanted a somewhat bigger screen size as well as 120 Hz TruMotion. This LG model also has a 2.4 ms response time.

So, I get about 70 more square inches of viewing space (at 1:85) than the 40 inch Samsung and that does make a difference. Sound from the set is okay, but I have it connected to a receiver and great speakers. The LG also has a connection for an optical cord which I use.

I'm quite happy with the images on the set. Sports (baseball and football) look really great! While watching the baseball game, I went into the settings to change it from vivid to standard and saw that it was already in standard mode. HD content is very nice as well. Blu-ray and HD-DVD are a pleasure to watch. I have not tried SD-DVD yet. It didn't look too good on the 47". Some were passable, others looked terrible. Not sure if it is the set or the screen size. Another reason for going with the 42" was because I have a huge DVD collection and most are SD and I am hoping they won't be as degraded in image quality on the 42" set.

Just to test it, I threw a couple of blu-rays in really quick and was happy with what I was seeing. I threw in Kill Bill 1, The Fall and The Matrix (Reloaded). Colours looked great in all three, and I found the blacks in The Matrix, very good.

By the way, it did take longer for this set to locate the signal from my dual-player Samsung. An extra minute or two is no big deal to me.

The 'soap opera effect' is much less noticeable on the 42" than the 47". I have yet to make any callibrations, I am happy with the display so far, I did have to alter the 47" settings while I had it, because it was too distracting. Like I said, the set is in a small living room, so I may not have found the display too distracting on the 47" had it been in a bigger room.

CGI effects in hd are a bit more noticeable on this set than my Samsung. I found that by turning the display down to a different setting, it made an improvement.

Upon turning it on for the first time, it scanned and found all the major HD broadcasts in my area (I am not too far from Detroit Michigan on the Canadian side). They all look great. I do not have hd cable or satellite so I cannot tell you how that looks.

There is a small instruction booklet in the packaging as well as a cd with the full manual on it.

It has only been a day, but after a lot of researching and viewing LCD sets in the stores, I am very happy with this set so far.

I am not sure if this set is available in the USA???

Looks like this set is going back. For the past two days it has been turning on by itself. None of the settings (timer) were changed or adjusted either. After googling the issue, it looks like it is a common one. Good thing it started doing it before my 30 day exchange kicks in. Apparently they also turn off on their won as well.

I picked up this set last night at Best Buy in Ontario. I ended up trying to decide between the 42LH40, the 42LH70 or a Toshiba ZV model. In the end, the LG 70 series won. However, I couldn't find much information about this model on the web.

I've only had it for about 24 hours, but so far I like what I see.

- wide range of picture customization choices

- excellent contrast range

- excellent viewing angle. The colour and picture were great even when viewed off-axis

- up-conversion (is that the wrong term?) of standard-def material is great. I watched a couple of avi files last night and liked what I saw. It's definitely not going from standard-def to hi-def, but the picture is smoothed in such a way that it's not a pain to watch

- turn the 120hz effects OFF! They make the picture appear jerky.

- blu-rays looked amazing. Movies looked like movies, but the colours were much more saturated than my older Sharp LCD. The black level was also excellent. The only tv I've seen with better black level was the Sony V5100 series, but those have their own issues.

All in all, I'm satisfied with the purchase so far. I've heard that there is/was a terrible audio synch problem with the LH40 series. I'm running my sound through a receiver right now, so the sound is fine for me. However, I will test a direct connection tonight when I get home.
