I'm looking at buying a 42" LG LED. I don't care about 3D, but the better models come with passive 3D. I was wondering if it effects the 2D picture in any way. I've heard reports of "seeing horizontal lines" when close to the TV, but if it's only an issue in 3D, I don't mind.

I can see it in 2D, some of the owners will tell you it's not visible but it is.

When reading reviews and comparisons between active 3D and passive 3D, one of the cons always listed for passive 3D is that it effects the 2D feature. I don't know why a company would make something that effects the 2D picture when most consumers watch their TV in 2D 95% of the time. It just doesn't make sense. My advice to you would be to stick with a company or TV that doesn't use technology that hurts what we watch most.

Crapit. Are there any more links, user reviews that I can have a look at? I believe the LG LW6500 has had very good reviews in general.

The image you referenced is not of 2D content, but rather what 1 eye sees (if very close) when it displays 3D content.


You may see something similar in regards to your own TV, but that image is NOT of the TV displaying 2D content.

The 47ld950 tha i owned for 7 month showed a slight distortion of 2d images that was created by it's fpr layer, distortion was very low and increased as you got closer the tv.

This is a fact my eyes showed.

On a 2011 42lw450u passive though it is'nt apparent.
