I saw a thread on this subject a while back but have no idea how I would find it with a search so I am starting it again.

I have a BD808 and I notice that on screens with a single bright spot (ie a candle agaist black) there is a ray of light that extends off the lighted area left to right. It always extends left to right and is only visible when a bright area is on an otherwise dark screen.

Does anyone know what this is and how to eliminate it?

Thanks

Steve

Sir

That phenomenon is known as smearing, and could have a variety of causes from cable or connector problems to ringing problems in the video chain due to a soft chip or transistor. You might look at the colors one at a time and see if it is in one color channel or is it common to all three.
