Line doublers...Newbie

314 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  stlblufan
I am slowly building some of my other components up to the capability of my HDTV. Currently I have a SVHS doing the tv tuner duties of my digital cable box (no hdtv in my area yet from the cable company).. I have a strv555es reciever that does component switching. I'm considering this line doubler.

I can't afford a faroudja at $2000, so I'm thinking this may get me by for now.

I would welcome any advice!

What kind of display do you have and what other sources are you going to connect to your display?

You may also want to consider the DVDO iScan Ultra.
hv-m300vsu direct view JVC hdtv...I/O avel player2 wireless media player, a philips sacd/dvd, jvc SVHS, digital cable box would the dvdo iscan ultra be around the $100 price?
Although the specs on your tv indicate that it can display a progressive picture, it is limited to 550 lines of resolution, which I think means it tops out at 480p (although it can evidently scale 720p and 1080i). In any event, if it can display progressive signals natively then it has a deinterlacer ("line doubler") built in. I doubt that you will get a better deinterlacer for less than $100 than the one that you already have, so I'd keep saving until you can spring for the DVDO or something else that does more than simply deinterlace.
