I've been looking into building an HTPC which has DRC and crossovers. Both of these functions appear to be best accomplished with Linux as the convolution engines needed are Linux based and there is little in the way of crossover software in Windows. The idea would be essentially building 2 computers with a Linux based computer as the server and a windows based computer as the media server.

1) Has any anyone tried this??? What problems are there likely to be?

2) Processing power: how much processing power would I need to do DRC for 12-14 channels?

3) Digital Crossovers: what Linux based programs are there for digital crossovers. Little seems available in Windows.
