Most likely nowhere near complete, but here's a listing of some audio equipment that can accept AC-3RF Dolby Digital LaserDisc input. I was searching around on ebay for a while on a processor/prepro/receiver with AC-3RF to replace my super old setup I bought 10 years ago. Even thou I already have multiple demodulators I still rather have one built in at least in this setup. I stumbled on a variety of models in the past months and decided to make a list. Also I added i/o listing to some of them as certain ones may be better in different setups. Maybe someone could find a use for it

oh if you buy something listed here and it don't have ac-3rf don't blame me! a reasonable effort is made to correct all mistakes.

Just about every model listed has 1 ac-3rf connector, additional ones will be noted.
If the AC-3RF connector is assignable as a coaxial digital connector that connector will not be listed as a coaxial in the i/o listing.

Legend
o = optical toslink
c = coaxial
5.1 = set of 6 analog cables
7.1 = set of 8 analog cables
db25 = 25 pin connector used for some AVR and AVP, but also with proper adapter converts to 6 or 8 analog cables.
1394 = firewire, ilink digital connector
in = input
out = output

the most common listing formats of this list

Add the Meridian 519 outboard demodulator. I owned it.

Quite a comprehensive list...

Tony do you know if it is true, that for any device which has an AC3 RF Input and an optical or coaxial digital Output, that the DD signal from the RF input will be presented to the digital Outputs?

Also, you should add to your AV Receiver list:

Onkyo TX-DS838 (1c, 1o, 5.1out)

Thanks for your list!

You can add the Parasound P/DD 1500 to your processor list. I would have to look, but I believe it has 2-toslink, one coax, one AC3-RF. 2 Analog Lt/Rt outs, and a DB-25 5.1 output. It was originally meant to mate with the P/SP 1500 THX Pre/pro, but you can get a DB25 to 6-RCA cable, or make your own.

This is an excellent list.

Should definitely be a sticky post!

I wish there was a dedicated LD forum for those collectors that still play LDs. Im still amazed at the number of LDs that are not on DVD and probably will never be!!

Alex you've been a member long enough I think. The DVD forum used to be the LD and DVD forum, before that LD.

I dont know the answer to your question Laserfan, other than demodulators, I've only owned processors/recievers with them and those did not have digital out.

update:

added some Parasound P/dd series, Integra, proceed, pioneeer VSX-0x series, Krell, Angstrom and the super old JWC dev decoder.

I don't know how many of my LDs (I have like 400-500 of them) are AC3 but I was disappointed my earlier Pioneer Elite 55TXi did not have the RF port. I own the 59TXi now and after 10 years of owning my CLD-D704 LD player finally I have the AC3-RF connected.

A quick look at the Pio website and the specs on the 59txi do not mention the RF input (that I could find anyway).

I can't afford that monster, and in fact have a 1015 coming-in this week--I must say I am very disappointed in Pioneer, that for all the LD players they sold, they seem to have left AC3 RF behind.

Add the Onkyo TX-DS939 to that list also, as it has a AC-3 RF coaxial input.

In fact, I still have one of these, that I have not used in years.

But anyway, it was their flagship AVR in it's day. And it's definitely a strong performer in as far as how much power it has and how well it is built. Plus it was even ahead of it's time as far as receiver automation goes. As it even has a automatic speaker distance calibration setup routine, that works with the separate calibration microphone that was included with the receiver.

Tony, back when I got the C-72 & SP-99D in '95, shortly thereafter, my brother got the Elite VSX-99 (could have another letter or so in model #???)reciever. It has 1 AC-3 RF input and one co-axe DD in wired to the satelite input, no digital output....no PCM input period.

Also, Denon had an AV pre back in '95-96 that was about like the 5600 reciever that had the RF input. I can't remember the model # (I'm tempted to say that 8300 was in the model #)but it was right out for me because it was $3500 and came with a POS remote to boot. It was double what I paid for my Elite duo that had reasonable remotes for those days. Another AC-3 RF pre was the Act 3, which I think was made by Acurus...? I remember looking at them and not liking the ergonomics or remote.

I remember the VSX-99 Rach! didn't they have a VSX-D99 as well? The others will take longer to research. I thought the act 3 was much newer? Maybe I was thinking about all the old upgrades for the act 3... I might post in the klipsch forum for more info.

Tony, it might be a VSX-99D...? They had a few more reg-lar Pio recievers with the RF input too. I can't remember the models. I have botrh of the 1995 Pioneer Mags, Elite & Reg-lar, with all the models. I can't find 'em just now.

The Act 3 was out in '98 I think, or early '99 for durn sure. I eye-balled it hard. I wanted DTS at that time and it had it. I finally settled on the Marantz AV9000 during the summer of '99. That's how I can date it. When I got the Marantz I finally got to hear my DTS LD's in actual DTS, not analog Pro-Logic!

I didn't make my point about Pioneer very well--they not only have left-off AC3 RF inputs on new receivers (that can well "afford" them) but also don't even list the feature in their specs anymore! Good grief!

To find-out if a product has one these days, I guess you have to download all the manuals, or inspect every back panel! Are their marketing people so very young that they don't know there was a Golden Age of Laserdiscs!
