little trick I figured out

Here's a little trick I just figured out - can't believe I didn't figure it out sooner, forgive me if it's been mentioned before.

You know how you can't use Find All Episodes from the Search Results screen? Well, that's a pain because then you have to scroll thru the Channel Guide to find a show you might want to make a Theme from.

But...instead of going thru the Channel Guide, this is easier:

Simply make a non-g show-based recording of the show you want from the Search Results screen.

Then...go to Replay Guide and do a Find All Episodes from there and make your Theme.

Now, delete your non-g show-based. Easy, huh? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

You forgot the part about where you pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time.

Dang, TWO gold stars!
Here's another little tip.

If there's a long search sting that you find yourself typing in alot, you could set up a non-g theme channel with the time slot set to only 1/2 hour, then whenever you want to perform the search, just click on the entry in the Replay Guide and select "Find Matching Shows"

Here's a slight show based variation of that. Suppose you'r einterested in a show like "Behind The Music" but you only want to record selected episodes, you could set up a show based channel with "Record All Episodes" set to NO, you can let it record a single episode which you can delete, but after that you can leave the entry in the Replay Guide, so whenever you want to create a list of all the upcoming episodes, you simply select the entry and select "Find All Episodes" and just set the episodes that you want to see to record.

ReplayMike,

We don't care how you do the Exiting, as long as we get the feature. Exit could go back to the previous screen and another Exit to get out altogether. Sure, why not? Makes sense. In fact, makes a lot more sense than the Enter becomes Select bug... http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Let's say that you could do Find all Episodes from the search results screen. If you could do that, what would you expect to happen when you then hit EXIT? Back to the first search, or just bail out?

Why do I ask? Because the reason it's not in now is that there was no way to EXIT back to the original search result screen.

Um, easy.

In the "Find Shows" screen there are three choices on the left, top to bottom:

Change Search Options

Create XXX Theme Channel

Exit

On "Find All Episodes" there are two, top to bottom:

Create XXX Theme Channel

Exit

Put a third, top choice in "Find All Episodes" that is called "Go to Find Shows".

And while we're talking 'bout this screen.

It's bad enough the layout's bad so the Description box covers up text on the top...but WHY does the "highlighted/selected" orange thing HAVE TO bounce over to the first found show every time? If I want to select a show, I will. If not, leave my darned cursor where it was - on "Create XXX Theme" so I watch the search progress.

Seems to me if you are going to place something OVER something else you wouldn't RUSH that second item to the screen so fast.

Oh...and still waiting for the Ch Up Ch Down functionality to be fixed...so say you're on the last page of results, Ch Down should bring you to the final show - even if it's just one or two away - that's how it works elsewhere. Here, Ch Down does nothing if you're on the last screen of listings...
