LNB or Receiver

229 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bcarstensen
I have a direct TV system with a Hughes E86 receiver, and oval dish with a three LNB. Now that direct has begun to expand its high definition programming I've noticed that certain H. D. stations breakup. Using the on board receiver measurements I can see that one's satellite is being received poorly.

I have already swapped ports on my multi switch and changed cable runs with no affect or improvement.

Since I've given up on my local satellite guy, can anyone offer some suggestions about troubleshooting this problem.

I was thinking that the purchase of a new LNB and the might be an inexpensive way to eliminate that component . would I need to match the Ellen be purchased to my hughes receiver / dish

thanks

Bruce

You didn't give any specific information, but if the problem is with Sat C there are a couple of threads running about the problem. Since you live in a coastal state and are using an E86, you are even more likely to find good information in http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=451007

That thread also contains a link to another thread on the subject.

Thanks for the link. This does sound like what's going on with me. I have a Hughes oval dish. What is this phase three dish, where would I find one and is it expensive? would I need to change LNB's or anything else?

Bruce
A Phase III is self contained. It's a unitized construction with the LNBs, combiner and multiswitch built in. Since the LNB heads are closer together, the dish is 18" x 20". The Phase IIs have separate LNBs and most have an external multiswitch and combiner with an 18" x 24" dish. All the oval dishes produced for a few years now have been Phase IIIs. Probably the least expensive way to get a Phase III if you don't already have one is to get it from DirecTV as an upgrade. I think they are about $60.
I have issues on Sat C transponder 12 for football on sundays, but that is the only one....the other two on sat c show reading of 70 but transponder 12 usually is in the 40's and the signal goes in and out..guess I will have to go read that link also....
Pat:

So a phase 3 dish is a general description of a newer type of dish?

Is my Hughes oval (approx 18x24) a phase 2 because it has seperate LNB's and the multi switch is in my basement?

Thx,

Bruce
