Just went to my "new" local planetarium (Clark Planetarium in SLC) and noticed they are running 5 Marquee's around the edge of the dome to create the picture of space or what ever they want to project. It is supposed to be the first "open Pit" planetarium in the world I believe they said! All 5 CRT's are converged on to the dome and the picture is split up 5 ways. I could not even imagine converging that.

Is this the way all planetariums are projected?

It takes about 3 days to converge them. I've seen the set up in Oregon at OMSI where they use 7 projectors. THere's an incredible amount of overlap, cleverly masked and blended by the computer software.

Total system costs about $500K if I remember correctly.

So how did you enjoy the show Wes? I've been thinking of taking the time to go up to the Clark Planetarium and would be interested to know how you liked it.
