Well... I guess since the beta's over now and I can talk, I should be the FIRST to thank and congratulate ReplayTV and especially ReplayMike for adding LOCALS support to the DirectTV lineup. I was the one that raised the most hell about this so let me be the first to take my hat in my hand and say a sincere, "Thank you!"

Thanks to ReplayTV; I can now support CableTV, Dish AND DTV on my Replays since I don't have to double-feed my Replays from DTV for network support.

Thank you ReplayMike... and THANK YOU REPLAYTV! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Support for off air antenna is still quite poor.

Only half of the local channels are listed, and they are in different directions. I have a IR remote rotor that responds to Pioneer cable box commands. I have asked several times for this support, but nope. Quite disapointed, http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

This would make the unit perfect in my book. Does Tivo do this?

I have seen rotors that respond to channel selection commands from a remote. When you enter your local channel, say 8, the rotor box (sort of like a cable box) is preset to point your antenna towards the transmitter for your local channel 8.

TTT for those that have not discovered this yet. You *MUST* redo your input setups for this to work but it's REALLY worth the trouble. For those that have 3.0; you might also be interested in knowing that this, and many other changes to Input Settings NO LONGER REQUIRE a dial-in to take affect. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'll try to be clearer.

See: http://www.channelmaster.com/pages/rc1.htm - Model 9521

I have a Channel master IR remote controlled antenna rotor. Half of my local channels are in different directions. This is not a problem most of the time, BUT for timer recordings, it is a real pain.

The IR control box responds to regular Pioneer cables box IR commands (two types of Pioneer command sets can be chosen on the box). Directions are assigned to the local channel number, for example, channel 8 turns the rotor to 300°, channel 21 turns the rotor to 120°.

The ReplayTV would have to send out channel 8, when I selected channel 8, just like a cable box.

It is giving satellite tv viewers without satellite locals a bit of a hard time.

I'm sure people would want this feature, see : http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum2/HTML/001791.html

ReplayMike, I will help in anyway I can to help this feature get added.

I'll talk to ReplayMike about that too. I didn't understand exactly what you were talking about. I have exactly the same setup. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I explained the whole situation in another thread somewhere here, but very simply new DirecTV receivers (about one year old and newer) put the locals not in the 900s. Anyone having one of these newer receivers was not able to use Replay (or Tivo) with their DirecTV supplied local channels.

I, too, was lucky enough to have older DirecTV receivers, so I could use the 900s just fine.

ONLY USE THE DIRECTV WITH LOCALS IF YOU HAVE A NEWER MODEL DIRECT RECEIVER; if you get your locals in the 870-900 range, use the 'straight' DirecTV choice.

ReplayGuys! Update the choices in setup to explain these two options...

Yes Mark. The ChannelMaster he listed is capable of pre-storing positions of OTA channels and upon command going to that channel by its OTA number. I think I can dig up my doc on my rotator/controller if he can't find it. I use my RF for cable and input OTA via input B on my DTC-100 for DTV. I can see, however; where this would be very beneficial to customers with this setup though I honestly suspect that this particular setup is a rarity. It is a VERY high-end controller/rotator. I have to question whether it is worth the development effort but again; I understand why he wants it: he HAS the setup. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

The rotor/controller isn't very expensive, you can get it as a set for $65.

I have this setup, so do two of my friends, one of who has replytv also.

The channel master controller responds to IR commands just like a cable box. I don't think it would take long to add this feature. It is just as though I have a pioneer cable box.

ReplayTV, offer me a job, I'll come over and give you a hand! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'd be happy to serve as ReplayTV's official high-humidity, hotter-than-hell climate tester. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

If it won't produce 500 watts per channel through a direct short, you need more power.

I must admit, I'm a little confused by this, so bear with me.

What exactly is "local" support with DirecTV. I have DirecTV, and have the local network channels (In my case channels 952, 953, 954, and 955).

I have been able to receive them with my replay since the beginning.

When I choose the local channel option, it seems to remap the stations to their cable numbers.

Is that what it does, and what else does it do?

Why you might want to use the directv plus lineup on a non plus receiver. If you run guided setup and select the lineup for your area if you have one after download you will have all the channels listed both your loacal number plus the locals in the three digit number. If you have a plus receiver then enable the lower number and disable the higher number but if you have a non plus receiver then disable the lower numbers and enable the three digit number. The reason I think you may want to do this on a non plus receiver is if you notice there are not all those other local channels listed for all the other city only the one for you area. Now in the future if directv adds another city local to there lineup it won't be added to you lineup since it not in your area.

In the past do to when directv added another city it was added automaticly to my lineup and since my local are in the 99x almost all new additions where lower than mind and if I didn't notice and since replaytv records off the lower channel if there dupicates it goof up my recordings. Now it doesn't. Of course I don't know if they changed this behavoir in 3.0 http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
