Logitech software always this slow?

2880 Views 73 Replies 37 Participants Last post by  jensph
I have been trying to configure the harmony remote I bought my father for christmas all day. I cannot seem to get the devices to save themselves to the remote. I selected the devices, and have tried to update numerous times, I usually get no response from the webpage. Is the traffic extra heavy today or is it always this slow?

Slow for me too...

If the "page" seems to hang, try a refresh...

I was having a very hard time getting from page to page... refresh helped.

But I'm up and running now...

Did try another "quick" change, but got the "high traffic" message...

Now what I want to know is if there is an opposite of the "I want to..." activity...

For example, I'm done watching TV and want everything off...

Maybe that means a "new" activity...

Lot to learn with this remote.

Same thing happening here, any changes I make took FOREVER to go through (if they didnt timeout that is)...but as many others have stated its obviously the site causing the issue, why does this thing even "phone-home" anyhow...just save the setup locally on the PC.

I will be sitting here hitting refresh on my browser for members.harmonyremote.com until if comes back up...need to get back to programming my new 360 remote

Shrug

The remote remembers what is on and what is off and will make changes as you select any activity. It has to do that since the power is normally a toggle. Also that is why the Help asks if each of the devices is on or off so that it can then reissue that power on sequence. Pushing the off button tries to turn off whatever is assumed to be on. Pushing the off again does nothing until another activity is selected.

However, there isn't any button to turn everything off unconditionally. As an example, if you press Watch TV and this turns on the TV and cable box but fails to turn on the receiver, if you do not correct the receiver problem with the Help button but instead click the off button, the TV and cable box will probably turn off and the receiver will turn on.

It is probably also that people who already had the remotes are logging in to program their other new components that they got for Christmas as well.
Stupid harmony remote.. I get one, and want to program it, but noooo the stupid website is down.

Frustration has set in!!!! I've been trying for 2 days to get my 880 configured. When try to update, it just times out.

You think a computer company would have this under control

ditto that. this is getting annoying.
It was slow yesterday and now it's not even available due to high volumes! I love it when companies do such a great job of planning! And getting through to customer support is just as fruitless, I waited for 30 mins on hold before giving up. I had the same problem with XM 2 years ago, web site crashed because they couldn't handle the volume of new activations.
I finally got mine programmed at 1:30 - 2 a.m. last night but now I want to add more devices and tweek and cant get on. For those of you still waiting as much as I was mad its worth the wait!

Just got through and completed an update. I logged in at about 2:30PM EST. Get in while the gettin's good!
I'm sure it's the high volumn from Christmas. Prior to Christmas, I was using the site regulary without a problem. Try to be paitent and you will be rewarded.
I bought my Dad a Harmony 880 for Christmas and I went to set it up today. The Logitech website was the least of my problems (I did finally manage to get through the initial setup screens and download a EZHex upload for the remote).

It turns out the lithium ion battery is making intermittant contact when the battery cover is installed. If I remove the battery cover and hold the battery into the main remote casing with my hand it works fine. The other major problem was the LCD screen is covered with these white splotches that appear on every screen except the initial "Testing..." startup screen. This baby is going to be exchanged at Best Buy tomorrow. My personal 880 at home didn't give me the battery problem and the screen looks 10x better. I hope it doesn't someday deteriorate into the crap I'm seeing on the new remote.

It's a little disappointing that their system is not prepared for the after Christmas volume as I'm sure the majority of their sales are at this time of year. Of course it is just the day after christmas and their DBAs and System Admins are probably off for the holidays.

It's 2:40 PST on 12/26 and I've been getting the below message off and on for a couple hours. This is too much hassle. I'm giving up for now and will try later.

Still slow as crap. I just got in, took about 2 minutes.
They'll be lucky not to have piles of returned remotes on their hands in the next week or so. If I were new to Harmony remotes (rather than just trying to upgrade to a newer model), I'd assume it was always going to be this much of a pain in the a**.

How stupid of them not to have a little foresight and get their system ready for the rush!
