Does anybody think these are a good choice for a home theatre setup in a mid-sized room.

I have them for my computer and they work pretty well. Would prolly do in a pinch for surround although I haven't tried despite not having any surround equipment.

SM
I use them on my smaller room that is 14x16 with a samsung 4667 tv playing xbox360.They sound great to me.I think for the price you can't go wrong
i agree, i know people that use the 5500 as a HT system in small rooms, and it does sound great for the price. honestly, i think it sounds better than some HTiB systems at the same price or slightly higher, but that's just my opinion...
I use them also for 360, DVD and regular TV. They sound great for the price and they look good too........
How do you think they would compare to the YHT-160?
I recently helped my friend set them up. He got them on sale for half price, so he got a smoking deal. I'd have to say I'm pretty impressed with them. I've only heard them when they're hooked up to an audigy 2 soundcard playing some MP3's, but it was obvious the quality was there. I've heard complaints about the bass being too tinny and not deep enough. I didn't find this to be the case. The control hub is nice looking and has a fiber optic and coax output on the back. You can't go wrong with this system IMO (I wouldn't pay full MSRP though).

Do you know where he got them for half price (you can PM me)

Do they have an optical input?
Watch sites like slickdeals for a deal on these. I am giong to guess his friend got them at Dell for half off a few weeks back. No on the optical input.

actually you're wrong, the 5500 has 1 optical digital input and 1 coax digital input, just like the 680 it replaced...
