long cable runs for audio and video

Hi

I've been lurking here for quite some time now, and the amount of information here is astonishing, but I do have a few questions.

My current setup consists of an HTPC, a Panny TH50PX80 plasma, and a SD 5.1 Sony receiver. I will be getting an HD receiver at some point, but for now I'm stuck with the SD one. I also have an xBox 360 which has component out. right now i'm just putting all the devices into the tv, and using it's optical out to my receiver. I'm also currently only running a 2.1 setup due to space restraints and the size of my rear speakers.

What I need to do is figure out how to get HD (720p) video and multi-channel (5.1 is fine, no need for 7.1) audio 65' from the HTPC in my office to my living room. I think the best way to accomplish this is with HDMI, as it'll carry both audio and video, but it's getting the a/v onto HDMI that has me stumped.

My HTPC uses an AGP GeForce card, i think it's a 5700LE. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to upgrade that, which isn't really a problem other than I've read that the AGP versions of the Radeon cards with HD Audio out don't work very well, if at all and I don't know of any AGP nVidia cards that have the HD Audio out.

Once I figure out how to get the audio and video on the HDMI, I need to know how to get it to go ~65'. I assume an extender is in order here? Any thoughts on brands/features/etc? I'm not totally against running 2 cables (one for audio and one for video) but I just thought it would be easier to just run one.

It seems the more I research this the bigger my headache gets, which is why I'm here trying to solve this.

Thanks

Trevor

I use the simple solution, VGA and digital coax. Just one more wire and a no brainer. As long as the VGA cable is good quality (like even the cheapest from Monoprice) you will be hard pressed to see any difference.

That sounds like a good idea, I take it just run a VGA cable for video, some quad shield RG6 for coax audio and get a VGA to HDMI adapter?

EDIT: It may be better to go DVI to HDMI and get a booster, as that route looks like it might be less expensive.
