Long hdmi runs from receiver to tv?

1072 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  de8212
I am hoping to finalize my list for a new HT and need some info. The way my set up is I would have to run a long hdmi cable from my receiver to my tv. I might could get away with 40 ft but 45 - 50 would definitely be the max.

Someone mentioned an hdmi amplifier and if I had to as a last resort I might do that but not sure how much they cost.

Anyone have any personal experience with this?

An HDMI run of 40 -50 ft is probably going to cause handshake problems. Also transmitting 1080p over that distance can be a problem.

These guys

have cables that will go 50ft for 1080p no problem. Highly recommended by others on AVSforum as well. You shouldn't need an HDMI amplifier.

Good FAQ on HDMI cable length too
http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articl...n-hdmi-run.htm

They (BJC) state near the bottom

"If you're in the longer-than-50-foot category, it gets dicier. We have had good consistent results with the Series-1 cable out to 100 feet, with reports of no trouble in 90% of installations. Cable quality starts to be a real concern at these distances, and performance always is hard to predict, especially because the cable that works on one source/display pair may not work on another. There is, unfortunately, no really good way to know what will work without plugging it in."

I run a 50ft Blue Jeans cable (up stairs and around corners) and have never had an issue. It ran initially from a Direct TV receiver and now from a Pre-Amp (1080P). Buy a good cable and try it before spending any additional money on an amplifier.
Thank you all for the info. Those Blue Jean cables sure are pricey.

I was going to get a Monoprice cable because I've heard such good things about them. Anyone happen to run a monoprice cable?

Try a 1.3a cat2 cable from monoprice they quality stuff. But I didn't see any 50ft available on their site.

This might work:

I am using a 50ft Monoprice HDMI cable in my theater and have no problem running 1080p material with lossless sound at all.

here is the link to the cable I am using

thanks for the info. I am now weighing the option of gettin gthe cable or just running a shorter cable over to the tv "exposed". I really hate to do that with 2 small kids.
