Longtime Yamaha receiver owners: Please help me figure this out.

I recently got an old RX-V563. Set up and adjustments with this one has been a pain compared to my previous Insignia model. A lot of stuff on the Yamaha seems to only be able to change using the OSD, while there are some features that only work on the body of the receiver. Odd.

Anyway, here's my problem. To adjust bass and treble, I am told to press the "tone control" button on the receiver and then press the L arrow/R arrow "program" buttons on the receiver to make my adjustments. The left arrow decreases bass and treble, but the right arrow doesn't work! The right arrow changes the DSP presets instead! This is not supposed to happen. It will go through stuff like "straight" "direct" "7 channel" "jazz" and so on.

This was an Ebay purchase but I don't understand how it could be (seemingly) broken in such a weird way. Also like I mentioned, I have never owned a more P.I.T.A. receiver to setup. I love the Yamaha brand though, which is why I bought it.

Can anyone help?

Suggest U RESET the unit...

1 Press CSYSTEM OFF on the front panel to set this unit to the standby mode.

  1. Press and hold TONE CONTROL and then press MAIN ZONE ON/OFF to turn on this unit.
The advanced setup menu appears in the front panel display.
  2. Press PROGRAM to select “INIT.”.
  3. Press STRAIGHT repeatedly to select “RESET”.
Select “CANCEL” to cancel the initialization procedure without making any changes.
  4. Press MAIN ZONE ON/OFF to confirm your selection and set this unit to the standby mode.

This will set all of the software settings back to factory defaults, and clears out any corrupted info in the CPU memory.

Just my $0.02... ;)

Hello. I have reset it three times and still have the same problem.
Anybody else? I tried resetting and that didn't make any difference.
Note that if the AVR is in the DIRECT Mode or 7 Channel Input, the tone controls cannot be adjusted..
