Look what Black Friday got me! Version 2

On Friday we went to BB to get a few items. I first had a brand new 40 inch insignia for my poster frame. I put it back as I did not want to spend $180. So we go over to the iPads and they had the iPad minis miss labeled for $224. So we snagged that before they changed the price.

The whole day I was second guessing not getting that tv. So we ventured to a few BB but all out.

Saturday morning I start checking BB online and all out, oh well. Then decided to look for open box and a location by me had one. So off to BB before opening. After finding it in the back I picked it up and tested it in store. Two other customers wanted to know if I was taking it, I said yes. It was marked $161 but missing stand screws. So I asked a manager and said they would give it to me for $139, sweet! I'm not using the stand anyways.

So got wood today and did most of my build. So here it is. It's going to be hung with French cleats. So it can be lifted right off the wall. I still have to fill brad nail holes, corners, and paint. Total cost is $175. What do you think?

Yep, just usb stick for now. Just design some headers and footers in Photoshop.

The framing as the mount, is an awesome idea. Very nicely done.


So where are you getting your digital movie posters? I've used the pay
sites, but lately have been collecting from:

You might want to add some top and bottom cooling vents to the frame,
or shim out the frame from the wall slightly.


Are you simply scaling to fit?

For movie posters I'm just searching the net but thanks for that link, it will help.

I have only used a few posters to get the idea. Now I need to download a bunch. As for scaling I'm using photoshop to make my own headers and footers. I might use them or just have the posters with top and bottom black bars, or design coming soon.

The frame sits about 1/4 inch all the way around off the wall. I might put in a 80mm fan at top with holes on bottom. I don't leave it on right now for hours so fine for now.

I designed the frame and TV to be one so its easy to take off the wall to get to the USB stick. I might add an extention usb later on. I originally was going to use 2 French cleats as shown but ended up only using one. I also used foam tape between the TV and frame so no rattles.

I was leaning that way.

I just resize the image with a width of 1080 and keep original aspect. So that makes it the correct width and the top or bottom can fall within a few pixels., still has black bar at top and bottom. If you take the image and make it native resolution the poster would be stretched top and bottom.

Gotcha. I understand how you are doing your posters.


I was thinking more along the lines of doing a near resizing, and then cut to
1080x1920, if the poster doesn't have details that extend out to the edges.

These pair were simple cut and paste into a 1080x1920 image. (Low hanging fruit...)
A few I have played with, might just work scaled slightly oversized, and
a 1080x1920 cut works.


And some are so loaded with print or detail to the edges, that an added
header saying something like "Now Showing", or "Coming Soon" is a simple
way to achieve a 1080x1920.

Which makes me wonder if maybe subdividing that hdtv panel into two frames, might return the original poster aspect, and allow
for simple editing to flush out a 1080x1920 frame with additional information, such as "Coming Soon", " Coming Attraction", etc, to fill out the panel's use?

In my original post you can see the header and footer I made in PS to use the black space. I did that for a quick test. I still need to make some coming soon and now showing stuff.

I believe his is running off a pc with the poster program. I wanted mine for now simple off the usb stick.

We're on the same page then, but I was thinking more along the lines of a physical separation
on the poster frame, and mimic the older style movie poster light boxes at the theaters.
(Might be an "age gap" thing... growing up with more traditional style theaters, then todays media
complexes.)
