Looking for a ~$100 player that will play DVD-Rs well....this is for a friend who is into DVD-Rs.

Panasonic and JVC models play all DVD recordable types great. JVC has the fastest load times.

I've had great success with my cheapo Cyberhome DVD player. Its never let me down on any of my DVD-Rs. I think its an older style, its more full-sized/traditional sized than the little tiny cyberhome dvd player I see in stores.

Joxer, as far as JVC I agree, but you have to be careful with Panasonic - depends on the model. Some of Panas do not play DVD recordables, even DVD-Rs at all. Not long ago my neighbour got a Pana player (do not remember a model number and it was not compatible with DVD-Rs (even the menu stated that).


Along with JVC, I would say Pioneer players usually play any disc type reliably. The exact model numbers that are compatible are (DV563A, DV578A). Perhaps other models are compatible as well.

I like my Philips DVP642. You can buy one at Target for $69. Has played my DVD-R's as well as Xvid, VCD/SVCD files.

I've NEVER had problems with Panny players recognizing home brew DVD-R's. They work in the following players I've tested them in:

rp-56

rp-82

rp-91

S35- DVD-RAM compatible too

S55- DVD RAM compatible too

XP-30

XP-50
