Looking for a 56"+ DLP

Alright, I know that this forum must have questions similar to this asked 100x a day, but I'm so overflooded with information right now, I'm starting to drown in it all.

For the past few weeks, I've been looking at just about every TV that I can find, read reviews on, etc., etc. etc. The problem is that all the reviews on TV's that I'm finding are all 1-3 years old! I find it hard to believe that technology in HDTV hasn't come a long way since then, so I wonder if many of these TV's are outdated, and manufacturers have released better models. This has led me to manufacturer's web sites to find their latest-and-greatest, but I cannot seem to find reviews on these TV's anywhere

Alright, so here's my question - straight from the people with all the personal experience and expertise in the area.

I'm looking for an HDTV (Ready or Capable), DLP, at least 56" or larger. I'm willing to spend up to $5,000 or so, but I really need to know a some good model numbers for TV's that I should consider, and what everybody here would recommend. There's just too much on the market right now, and not enough information on which manufacturers or models provide the best pictures.

If somebody has some suggestions or recommendations for some DLP HDTV's at least 56" (preferably 60"-70"), I would greatly appreciate the effort in helping me out.

Thanks!

Samsung is currently the leader in the DLP industry, and they make a 56" (HLN567W) and a 61" (HLN617W) model that are both great. You can get a good price right now on them since the new HLP models will be coming out in the fall, or wait for the new models.

True but slightly out of date. The basic HLPxx63 models are showing up in stores this week. They come in 46", 50", 56" and 61" sizes. The first sets to ship are the 50" followed by the 46" sizes. One can only hope that the larger sizes will be here soon too.

In a higher price range HLPxx77 there will be two screen sizes -- 46" and 56". These sets "should" have better PQ than the HLPxx63 sets and will have built in HD tuners. They are expected in the fall -- September.

Then late in the year (a less reliable November?) there will be a 61" 1080p set -- the HLP6197 I believe. It will be the top of the line and probably have a MSRP of about $6,500.

There is a lot of information about all these models here in this forum but only attendees at the NYC Home Entertainment Show have seen them in person. That will change fairly soon for the "basic" HLPxx63 models.

There is a power buy going on in June and July for the HLPxx63 sets. Read the first few messages for details and then skip to the end for shipment sightings.

Don't jump on me for saying this, anyone, but I just bought a 56" Sammy DLP and I'm very dissapointed with it. Occasional green shift, extreme a/v sync issues, piss poor black levels. The entire screen looks white washed. I'd have it calibrated but I'm waiting for a fix on the a/v sync which I suspect will force me to have it recalibrated.
Wow. I just got back from Ultimate Electronics. I thought that the DLP's were supposed to be the best quality for the money, but then I saw the WEGA KDF-60XBR950 60'' LCD Projection TV, and it absolutely blew my mind. The thing was a work of art. I was considering purchasing the 70" version, though they didn't have it on display, but the salesman had mentioned this yera's models would be coming out in a few months.

Does anybody have any speculation on the new models, and what do you guys think of this model? Is there anything comparable?
