Hello All - I am looking for a (1) subwoofer to finish off my theater room. I currently have a (2) energy RC - 70 towers, (2) RC-10 bookshelf speakers and 1 RC-LCR with a Denon S700W receiver. I have a 120" screen with a Sony 55 projector.

1. Your budget. $500

2. Size requirements/limits. Don't know, a 12"?

3. Room dimensions. dedicated theater room in basement 12.5 x 21 x 8.

4. Primary uses. 100% movies and tv.

5. Listening habits. None - movies and tv only.

6. Appearance requirements. black

7. Timeframe. Now.


I saw that amazon has a sale on some subwoofers, but I have no idea what to get. I saw the following:

Polk Audio PSW505 for $249.95.
Klipsch 12" 300 watt for $299.99
JBL Es250PBK 12" for $249.95

I am really open to anything.

+1 to the SVS PB-1000. Another option - which offers more overall output, but less extension - is the Premier Acoustic PA-150. It usually retails for ~$499 on Amazon, but it can reportedly be had for as little as $350.

If you can push your budget up by $100 you might look at dual BIC PL-200. If not then the SVS PB-1000 is a great choice.

If duals are an option, $540 will get you a pair of NXG NX-BAS-500 subs, shipped, from Amazon.com. Here's a good review of that sub.

If you are all about cinema, then you probably want the lowest extension sub you can get. The PB-1000 mentioned by auceny will hit 19Hz for $500. Dual NX-BAS-500's recommended by eljaycanuck would give you great output in a 2100 ft^3 room, but you'll miss the extension of the PB-1000. One other option for $569 shipped is the Rythmik LV12R, which is also rated down to 19Hz.
