Looking for a DVD Nav for Mazda 3

442 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Spurrier Sucks

The one in 4S is really unaffordable. I have been looking for it online for 2 days. Anyone with the experiences of this brand Koolertron? Should I make this deal ?

Any words would be appreciated.

I ended up getting a Garmin Nuvi 255w unit, and a "sticky disk" so I can mount the little unit on top of my dash but below windshield level (not blocking view of the road, nor blocking the instruments). Even with the lifetime maps and extended warranty, it's half the price of the unit you were pointing to, and my unit has been moved to a second car of a different brand, and all it cost me was a second "sticky disk".

The down side is that it doesn't blend with the manufacturer's style.

Thanks for your reply, Mark. I want to find an in-dash one as I don't like too much items on the top of the dash. Do you have some advices?
I have never heard of koolertron. Plus it looks similar to an all in one carpc.

I would expect to spend 450-700 on an in dash GPS head unit. Spending under that would bring questions of reliability (you get what you pay for). While I agree with Clay on just adding a stand alone GPS unit, your aesthetic tastes are what has to be accomodated.

Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC and Clarion all make GPS head units that work fairly well. Just make sure it's easy to update the maps and POI. Don't be shocked at prices.

Here is where I look. What's nice is the free items to hook the unit up that they supply.

Amazon is my usual second choice.

Just a note, Koolertron is a "order from China" internet company. Usually very little recourse if something goes wrong, language barrier, usually hard to get tech support.

Your information is very helpful, Cubdenno, but I'm still confused by the brands and various functions. I will have a search on the brands. Thanks your reponse,

Well maybe listing what other features you are wanting may help. we know you want GPS and DVD functionality. What else? Bluetooth for compliance with most of the new state laws might be good. can't seem to talk on the cellphone without handsfree anymore.

What else?

I would go with Alpine. I think they have a better sound but that's just my opinion. This model should be on the way out and the one I have. It's a nice unit. The first one was defective but was replaced and has worked flawlessly since. The one thing I don't like about it is no video out so it can't be set up to control the overhead DVD. No big deal for me but may be for others. Local shop can probably give you a better deal.
