Looking for a hand held HD camcorder

Replacing an old digital 8 Sony which lost the battery charger. It cannot work without it.

Anyway been looking over Canon's new VIXIA HF M500 and want to get opinions on it or similar camcorders. I don't need wi-fi capabilities just the basics.
