Hi all.

I would like a list of resolutions and their formats. For example:

1024x768=1.33:1. But is 1280x1024 also a 1.33:1 format?

I think someone made a list some time ago, but I can't find it.

Thanks for your time,

Nicholas

You can figure out the ratio yourself, divide the first number (the horizontal resolution) by the second number (the vertical resolution) and add :1 to the end of your answer.

1280 divided by 1024 is 1.25, so the ratio is 1.25:1

Please note that this only holds true for square pixels, it is often possible to fit one resolution into the timings of another with tools like PowerStrip, which results in non-square pixels.

Keep in mind that the resolution's AR is not necessarily the display's AR: DVDs are 720x480. That is a AR of 1.5. The AR of what you see depends on the device you are displaying it on obviously. 720x480 could be displayed as 1.33:1 (4:3 or "full screen"), 1.78:1 (16:9 or "widescreen) or something different even (depending on your setup).

Just to clarify / confuse some more about those "square pixels" :)
