I am looking to replace my Sunfire Ultimate reciever 1, but due to finances the highest I can go is $700. I was looking at the Onkyo 805 and also considering the new Sony 920 (when it comes out).

I would appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

It will be hooked up to:

PS3, Tivo HD, Samsung 61" DLP, Polk RTi8 front, Polk c150 center, dbx satellite surrond and a JBL sub.

Also if anyone is interested in the Sunfire let me know. (lower 48 only)

On a low fixed budget you can get more receiver for your money by buying used (audiogon.com) or a prior model. For example, I recently purchased a new Marantz SR8001 for $999.99 (on sale last week for $799.99) which retailed for $1,999.99 from accessories4less.com.

I don't have any experience with the Onkyo or Sony receivers you have listed. I really enjoy the sound from Sunfire receivers, I'm not sure that you will be throughly impressed with either the Onkyo or Sony. Have you auditioned them?

Going on the vast amount of information here I went a purchased a refurbished 805 with the 2 yr. extended warranty for $549 from shoponkyo.

If the Sunfire TGR-3 extracted digital audio from HDMI I may have "found" a way to purchase it.

I am not an audiophile as I work in a job with constant high decibels, even though I wear hearing protection there is some high frequency loss. I want an AVR that will let me get the most out of my PS3 and have the reserve power needed for the movie soundtracks.
