I am currently looking at purchasing the onkyo s6300 for 500 dollars from newegg. Although the s7300 comes with floor standing speakers albeit for $650. I don't really want to go over this budget. Could I piece together a better system for roughly 500 dollars?

I am thinking about going with jamo 5.1 that was suggested. Couple the speakers with a 7.1 receiver. I want hdmi pass through, up scaling, and all that jazz. I figure I can buy some floor standing speakers next and mover the jamos to the surround positions eventually. Which should make for a nice 7.1 set up.

I have a question on the receiver front. I am thinking about the onkyo 508 and 608, but the 508 seems to have a lot of problems from what I have read. Would it be worth it, if I were to go with the 608, to utilize the extra sub position and add a 10" or 12" subwoofer to go along with the jamos 8". And what are your thoughts on 7.2 set ups? Are they worth it?

If you have any alternate receivers to suggest, well suggest away.

They're worth it with the right two subs, but I don't know if that 8" Jamo sub is going to help a whole heck of a lot.

My current thoughts:

Receiver: Onkyo 608 at $379 vs 260 at $299

Speakers: Jamo S 5.1 at $199

Later add front floor standing speakers and up grade the sub/add another sub.

If I were to get the 608 and Jamo 5.1 it would bring me to $578. Onkyo 6300 7.1 would be $499. With floor standing I'm guessing somewhere around $700-750 to complete the 7.1.

1. Is the 608 worth the extra 80 dollars?

2. Would the extra $200-250 be worth it over the 6300? I would be getting a better receiver in the 608/260 over the one in the 6300 (I think) and I would have better speakers than the ones in the 6300.

3. How is the sub in the Jamo S 5.1?

4. Other suggestions.
