Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and I'm looking for a sub. I have almost given up finding anything in my area retail. I can't find a fathom around here to demo or much less buy. I almost pulled the trigger the other day on a Servo 15 from the local paradigm dealer. I just couldn't justify paying the full retail price. I had previously shopped at the store and thrown them a decent amount of cash and they wouldn't budge unless I bought some speakers as well. Am I too spoiled? I don't think I should have to pay full retail at a store where I have dumped quite a bit of cash already. There's always Ultimate Electronics and they usually give me at the least a 10% discount if not more off the top no questions asked. They just don't have anything I'm really interested in. I finally broke down and pre-ordered the SVS ultra 13. Wish I could find that Fathom. Anyway if any of you guys could suggest anything I would be grateful. I would like something hat will ge me the low end punch I feel I've been missing watching movies. The room is not real large, 18 x 24 no large openings and my system is probably 90% home theatre use. My other gear is Onix Rocket 850's, bigfoot and UFW-12 powered by the Emotiva MPS-1 and DMC-1. Sorry for being so long winded.

If I am a regular or previous customer at a store, I'd also expect that they give me at least a fair discount. There shouldn't be a reason that they wouldn't budge on the price, especially considering that the Servo 15 isn't a new model or anything.

I think as long as you can live with the physical size of the SVS, you should't have to regret your decision. It should be one awesome sub.

If the U13 lives up to the press releases, it should satisfy your need for LF. The wait would kill me. Look at the ACI Maestro XL if you can't find an F113.

I was originally on the BMF pre-order list. However waiting for that sub was killing me so I began looking for something else. I can't stand that they continue to not have a release date. I am hoping that wosrse case scenario is that SVS is close to the date they re floating around. However if something comes up first I'm open to it.

If I were you, I would get 2 Outlaw LFM-1 Plus's. At the sale price of $499 each plus shipping. I would rather get the Outlaws than the SVS Ultra.

Welcome to the forum! I don't think you are being spoiled for seeking a discount. As far as the fathom is concerned, I would send a PM to Manville Smith (see the JL Audio thread) to see if he could help you out.

The SVS Ultra 13 will most likely be a stellar performer. Another possibility is the ACI Audio Maestro XL.

Out of curiousity, why do you prefer the 2 Outlaw LFM-1 Plus over the single SVS Ultra 13?

Thanks.

I am in the St. Louis MO area. I was really suprised when I moved here and found that I didn't really care for any of the smaller audio retailers. I bought a Klipsch Reference 7 set-up from one local shop. I bought the receiver, dvd player, and some car stereo items from the afore mentioned Paradigm dealer. I didn't really care for either one. Their sales associates in my opinion were somewhat arrogant and or rude. They just did not seem interested in helping me or working with me until they knew it would be a large sale. I miss Rowe Audio and Video in Rochester, NY. If you ever get up that way check them, out. There are some great guys over there that always treated me and my buddies like family, even when we were broke college students. Then a friend of mine here about a year or so ago got a flyer from Ultimate Electronics for one of their "private sales". We checked it out and I was very suprsied. Their sales staff was not very knowledgable, but at least they really worked with me to make a sale. I was very suprised. I actually ended up ordering he Rockets when I sold off my Klipsch because I didn't really want to support some of the local shops I have had dealings with. Anyway I will check out the ACI sub and thanks for he replies.

Thanks.

It goes something like this:

I know that the cabinet volume of 2 LFM-1 Plus's is greater than 1 Ultra.

Two 12 inch drivers vs. one 13.5 inch driver is an advantage.

Two 350 watt amps vs. one 750 watt amp is no disadvantage.

The flexibility of having 2 subs is an advantage.

You could co-locate the dual LFM-1 Plus's.

You could have them in both front corners of the room.

You could place one LFM-1 Plus in a front corner and use one nearfield.

You could stack a pair of LFM-1 Plus's, or place them side by side.

These are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head.

Kind Regards

Jhan1000,

I'm sure you've read Spyboys post before and know that he always recommends them. Look through his past post and he states the same thing over and over always with the price and more than often duals. He is a broken record. Whatever his motives are take any info he gives with a grain of salt.

Raist, I believe you will be very happy once you get the 13 Ultra. I'm in a similar situation as you are. I too will be adding an Ultra to Rocket 850's and was once waiting for the BMF. The BMF is coming along way too slow, however. It's been talked about for a year now with no real signs of it on the horizon.

One interesting feature of the new Ultra over the BMF is the 4 different tunings to play with.

Does anyone dispute this preliminary list of advantages of dual Outlaw LFM-1 Plus's over the new Ultra?

If you can't discuss the merits of my arguments, please refrain from making personal attacks.

With all due respect...

The 13.5 SVS Ultra driver will displace a good deal more air than the run of the mill 12" drivers used in the Outlaw. These 12" if they have 1.5" of travel would be good, the new Ultra will have at least 2.5" of travel and use a larger piston.

The driver is the heart of a subwoofer, the new 13.5 Ultra woofer outdisplaces two of the 12" used by Outtlaw, and probably(probably) the HSU HO 12".

The Ultra is capable of more clean output down very deep where the Outlaw subs can do one thing PRODUCE alot of distortion.

The quality of components used in the SVS Ultra will be superior,a better quality product.

The new Ultra and even the "old" Ultra is in a class the Outlaw subs do not belong.

Kindest regards

TheEAR

PS Give me the choice of one Fathom f113 or ten of your Outlaws and I take the Fathom.Same with the SVS Ultra lineup,I prefer better quality with quantity than multiples of a lesser product.

Guys, carry it on via PM's or put each other on the ignore list.

Bill3508, don't insult forum members. Another accusation like that will get you suspended.
