Looking for a replacement Sub

2296 Views 35 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  clnconcpts
I currently own A velodyne spl 12.Thinking of trying to find another one of them and have 2 or just junk it and get a new model/brand. I mostly watch movies but i do listen to a ton of music. So, i would need it to be equal as good for both.Maybe a touch better for movies.

Hopefully your budget matches the rest of your gear in your sig. If so then you have alot of decisions to make....lol

Budget?

Not sure what a good sub would run.Dint mind paying the price of a Digital Drive series or the newer JL sub.
Considering your rather large budget a couple of SVS PB13 Ultras would be awesome unless size is an issue

If size is not an issue, a7-900 is the best in every way
JL Fantom F113 x 2 or Velodyne DD15 x 2..
Epik Conquest.

No it's not. What about looks...among other things?

I believe the size of room is about 15' by 21.

Specs on sub show 750 watt amp?? Seems weak,no?

How well does it perform for music and movies?

It's a conservative rating, plus the PB13 Ultra is a large ported box. It'll play far louder and deeper than the Velo SPL-12 you have right now
. Especially if you get two of them.

That said, if you can handle the massive (read: the size of a coffin and weighs over 400 pounds) A7-900 CADOBHuK recommended, I don't think you'll be left wanting for more bass.

So, do that would be my recommendation.

Or get a high-end B&W.

And how tall is it?

Amp specs on subs can be misleading. More does not necessarily directly equate with better. Depending upon the design, some subs can do more with the available wattage than others.

Actual size is 14 wide by 22 long by 9 1/2 high
With your recommendation of sub, please tell me if this sub works great for both music and movies or if it better suits one. thanks
the better subs are the ones that are big enough for you to sit a 5'4 125LB woman inside the enclosue in a seting position with the DRIVERS and damping material intsalled and have room to spare.
But such a sub would be overkill in a room that "small"

you could go with SVS's Biggest sub with the six "12" drivers.

Since size is an issue, from smallest to largest.

SVS PB ultra

Epik Conquest

eD dual 18 sub.

...And since the eD will take up half your room, you can scratch that one off your list.

Just be aware, clnconcpts, that you are going to get biased advice here. Many participants here use ID subwoofers. Which is fine. They may be the best. Just be aware, though, that the answers will be biased toward them.
