I want to get an A150 and an A200x3, but I can't find any for sale anywhere.

Does anyone know of any dealers that may have them from a trade-in or other sources other than scouring the 'net and Audiogon?

Much appreciated,

Jerry

The Acurus line was discontinued by Klipsch after buying out Mondial. That has been a while now so I doubt you will still find Acurus amps at a dealer.

If you are interested in a good deal on one of the last A125X5 amps bought at retail that has, maybe, 8 months use on it, PM me. I have one sitting in the original box in a closet.

Jerry check Audiogon.com as Acurus amps appear there every so often. I would look at getting an A200 and A200 *3 for a better match. I use an A200 * 5 and have an A250 kicking around if I ever decide to go 7.1. Right now the A250 is collecting dust. The Acurus amps provide plenty bang for the buck but keep in mind that these amps do not have 12V triggers and they only offer unbalanced inputs.

I'm planning on buying Robert's A125x5. I'm going to use it to drive a set of Paradigms: Monitor 7, CC-370, Mini-Monitor, PS-1000). I'm interested to see how it will sound.

Good idea about matching the amps, but I think I 125W per channel, given the Acurus' design, will suit my speakers just fine.

It's funny, but right *before* I decided on Acurus amps there were a bunch of them up on Audiogon. By the time I had made up my mind, they were all gone.

I've got a Panamax unit that can handle power-up sequencing and I imagine I'll have to wait for the kids to be out of school before I move into high-end (aka balanced) gear.

The next expense is going to be finding a used Lex DC-1 or DC-2.

Cheers,

Jerry

Sorry, but could you explain the 12v trigger and unbalanced input issue?

thanks

DWK,

The 12v trigger issue is basically a convenience feature (although, now they are relatively standard) that allows the amp to be turned on/off when the controller is powered on/off. Acurus amps didn't have this feature.

An unbalanced connection is a standard RCA input, while a balanced connection is a 3-prong type connector common among pro-gear...but is also becoming more common even in mid-fi components. This shouldn't be an issue if you amp and pre/controller is located close to one and other. For longer runs, a balanced connection is often suggested to reduce noise and interference.

By default, almost, every preamp ever made has unbalanced outputs eg RCA jacks. Some preamp / processors also include balanced (XLR jacks) in addition to the unbalanced connections.

The overwhelming majority of power amps have unbalanced inputs. Some also have balanced inputs.
