Hello,

I'm looking to get my first projector. I would like to spend less than 5k.

At first I followed the comments about the Sony VPL-HS10. Since it comes

Does this mean I should look a DLP rather than a LCD?

I would like to have native HD resolution support.

Any recommendations for that segment?

Thanks,

Rafael

Welcome to the forum Rafael,

When I began looking for a projector, I needed to look at some DLPs to see if I saw rainbows or even worse, got headaches. Unfortunately, I did have headaches after watching even 20 minutes of a DLP projector.

I think this is where you need to start, to audition some DLPs to see if you're okay with it before obviously committing to them. It seems like a small minority of the people are really bothered by DLP (but I'm one of them). I believe the source of the DLP problem with many people is the fact that DLPs use a spinning color wheel which can cause problems (rainbows and headaches) for those who are sensitive to this technology.

After this step, if you're not bothered by the DLP and blacks are very high on the priority list for you, then look for DLPs. However, if you do experience these symptoms and decide that they are unacceptable, I would start researching the LCD route once again. The blacks may be somewhat inferior, but can still be very enjoyable!
