Willing to pay extra IF the AUDIO is that much better. The video on any of these newer players is fine with me I am looking for the best sound differences. I have a Denon 2805 reciever and playing a 7.1 setup with Paradigm 9's in front and a AVS pb12 plus 2 sub. I play mostly movies and looking for the best SOUNDING DVD player. Thanks for your help

Bear in mind that if you use a digital cable for audio (optical or coax), they will sound the same (you're just using your receiver's audio DACs). For better audio, think about upgrading your receiver (IMO, that is your limiting factor with your current receiver).

So, right now I am using an OLDer (8 years old) Yamaha DVD with DTS and feeding my reciever viea optical cable. Will I get any sound improvement if I upgrade to either of these newer players?

Not likely.


If you subscribe to the digital jitter reduction & super expensive transport way of thinking then you could see some improvement... but the Denon amps and DAC's are likely not nearly revealing enough to have those other issues come into play.


If you want better sound and you're just using your DVD player as a digital transport, then I'm going to have to agree with the other poster. You're much better off going with a higher-end receiver.

You might want to see how the 5.1 analog audio plays through your amp -- assuming that is supported. The DACs on better DVD players are often much better than the receiver's.

While there would probably be no difference with the digital out, what about the analog outputs of the Oppo 981 and Denon 2910. Is there a noticeable difference in the sound between the two?
