For free music streaming I think Spotify is about as good as you can expect. The bitrate is half as good as a paid Spotify account but certainly more predictable than whatever you get on YouTube. I had Tidal Hifi for awhile and could not hear enough of a difference with Spotify Premium to justify paying double. I think the $10 a month for Spotify Premium is worth it.

Your ears are correct. Spotify can sound better than youtube.

That's fine. But depending on what kind of music you like to listen to and what kind of gear you have, they can at times like the "best streaming for music" option...

There shouldn't be much/any "learning curve" needed to stream music... the apps, pretty much all of them, are pretty consumer friendly and easy-to-use IMO.

Yeah.

If you make your own FLAC files from CDs or other high quality sources you don't lose any of the quality of the source.

I have a family sub to Apple Music that my kids use a lot more than I do. I have a collection of local files including Flac files made from High Res Audio available on Blu Ray and SACDs.

im not buying cds and converting files or any of that stuff.

for days now ive been comparing free spotify vs youtube at 1080p (music only)

spotify definitely has a much cleaner sound and is louder.
i might just pay the $10 a month for spotify premium. but ill wait for another 3 months for $10 offer via email.

though a lot of songs on my spotify account arent available anymore. wondering if that has to do with my free account or if theyd be available if i subscribe and pay the money.
or if its some legal issue.

Curious what songs are now missing. I could check some with my Premium account and let you know.

Well,.... I know Spotify used to stream songs they had no rights to. My garage band as a teenager had original songs that became available on Spotify and I think only our drummer noticed (most of us moved on from that 80's garage band we had as kids) but since they were copyrighted we got notification that a class action suit would give us compensation.

I got some paperwork about it but I tend to ignore class action settlements if I don't think the issue really matters to me. (Like the PS3/Linux one... I think I was eligible for $20-$40 but I never wanted to put Linux on my PS3 so I simply ignored my claim for that one.)

I also know I have some rare music that isn't on AppleMusic and most likely isn't on Spotify either. What's worse is when a streaming service mis-identifies something and it's just in the wrong place.

There is plenty of music that isn’t on Spotify but most popular music is with a few notable exceptions. For years Joan Jett wasn’t available there and neither was Tool but both are there now. If the music that the OP is looking for is not available then Spotify is not for him but if it’s is relatively popular odds are good that it is there.

Is there music on Spotify Premium that is not available on Free? Just curious as I was thinking of doing a trial just to see what content they have. I"m on Amazon now, but some stuff I look for isn't available (ex "Joel Frankel - If Peter Pans Out")

If free is the same content then I can just try that.

That album is not on Spotify but they have some other ones from that artist. I know that some artists, like Taylor Swift and Adele, were complaining about the free tier and may have negotiated to have some of their music held back from the free tier. I have the premium subscription so I don’t know what may not be available on the free tier.
