Hello everyone, sorry if this is the millionth topic about this here but I'm having some trouble deciding on what to get

-REVISED-

I have a budget of around $800, or if ordered from newegg a budget of around $930

Been doing some research comparing all different pricepoints, brands and models of bookshelf speakers and I don't know what to get

Living in a dorm for the next couple of years so the space to fill isn't enormous or anything

I listen to all kinds of music so clarity is key, listen to music much more than I watch movies if that matters

It'll be hooked up to my PC and probably just my PC for a long time

My budget includes speakers and amplifier/receiver

Would appreciate any recommendations and help, thanks!

--

Looking at

-Focal Chorus 706V

-Monitor Audio BX-2

-Martin Logan Motion 15 (Only if I can get it for a cheaper price from a distributor)

Have you listened to any Klipsch speakers? or any speakers at all?

Newegg has some really good deals sometimes.
I only have experience with headphones, so everything to do with speakers is just what I've been reading from comparisons and reviews that's why I'm looking for more opinions from people here

And I was going to look into some kind of amplifier after I figured out what pair of speakers I wanted to get, I don't think I'd really have a need for a receiver.

So is your budget 430 (newegg) for receiver or amp plus speakers? Or is the amp/receiver not included.
At most it's around $490 for the total budget, I was thinking of getting a cheaper amp since my room isn't very big

If that's not advisable I can always switch how much money is being spent on what, that's why I'm asking for help haha

What is your music on? iPod/iPhone or ?

To me, it just makes more sense to have the option to expand. Add speakers, add your TV, Blu ray player/DVD player, cable box but if you don't think you'll ever do that. Then you can just get a cheaper amp and speakers. Plus with a receiver you get a remote.

I'll have it hooked up to my computer and it'll probably stay that way for at least the next few years that's why I'm thinking of just an amplifier for now

Gotcha, have you priced out amplifiers at all?
I've looked at them but once again I wasn't sure what was good and bad

I've been told to buy used for them as well so that adds even more confusion haha

Lol, this hobby can be overwhelming and never ending.

Yes, you can get better deals buying used but it scares me buying used because you don't know how the previous owners treated it. I'm a picky person and keep all my stuff in perfect or as best shape as I can.

Cheap amp:

It's a few bucks more on Newegg.
I was looking at that one it seemed to be recommended a bit

I saw the Topping TP21 as a slightly cheaper alternative as well

It is very overwhelming, picking out my headphones and accessories was a much easier time lol

Yeah I've been into HT for a few years and I still don't know anything compared to some of these guys.

Have you listened to any speakers in a store or at a friends house? It's hard to decide what you'll like by others opinions. I recently bought NHT speakers and love them! With saying that you may not like the way they sound. The Super Zero would be in your price range ($100 each) but they have small drivers and would require a sub.

People on here don't like Polk subwoofers (for the most part) but I had a PSW10 in a smaller room and it was mainly used for music. To me, it sounded good, at least worth the money ($99). Plus side is it isn't really big, so it won't take up much floor space.

What's your room dimensions?

Go listen to some speakers, you may like what we hate and hate what we like!

For me I just got a Yamaha RX-V475 for $279 and I think I like PSB alpha B1s the best from all I've heard and they are $199 so together it's in your budget, if you like the PSB's

Arx A1b are very resolving speakers with a neutral response. You won't have heard of them because they are an Internet direct brand. But as a consequence, because they don't have to build in markup for a middle man, they are an excellent value.

I can also recommend the Indeed TA2021 (I own 2 of them). Here is a testimonial about it .

However, at ~ $100, you can go used for a stereo or audio/video receiver on your local Craigslist. Good values to be had.

Finally, you could stay within your $300 budget and go with powered studio monitors. The JBL LSR 305s have been getting a lotta love on the Net since they came out last fall. These would be great for a dorm room, and Sweetwater has them buy one (sold as each), get one half off .

What kind of headphones and headphone setup do you have?

I was looking at the Klipsch RB-51 II at the top of my budget, and the Cambridge Audio S30's on the lower end of my budget

Klipsch would not be my choice for a nearfield setup sitting a computer. Many people find them fatiguing. Definitely a "try before you buy" option.

From Newegg - the Boston M25 - for $399 - and that is 1/2 off regular price

will look cool in a dorm room

Okay I'll take that into consideration

My setup right now is a Fiio D03k, Schiit Magni, and AKG K712 Pro's

And well it turns out my budget increased 500 dollars, so at the very most I can spend is $950 on newegg or $820 off

That's not saying I want to spend it all, but it is an option

Thinking a subwoofer can be thrown in there now as well

And thanks for the recommendations so far, looking at all of them.
