I am looking for some speakers for my setup. I have a center channel and subwoofer already (not pictured) but would like to add some front channel left and right speakers. I have read up on some of the budget speaker threads on here but I felt a little bit like I was in over my head so I thought I would add a few constraints.

I am looking for the pair of speakers to cost between 200 and 400 dollars.

I mostly listen to modern rock and metal. I don't always listen to my music really loud but would like something that would still sound good if I did crank up the volume.

It is my understanding that floor standing speakers sound the best. I really could go with any type of speakers if needed for my setup but since space is not an option I figure floor speakers would be the best choice. If there is something that would sound better for the same value I am open to ideas. The look of the speakers in this room is not a major concern of mine.

As far as placement I would like the center channel to go on the shelf where the Linksys router is now. I was thinking the best choice for the right speaker would be just where the door stops. The left one I would have an equal distance from the TV.

I use bean bag chairs in this room so ear level is very low to the ground.

I have included a picture of my room below. I am not entirely sure what I am doing but I know most of the people on this forum do so I would love it if you guys could help me steer me on the right path.

What center channel do you have now? The center needs to voice match

the front speakers. You can get some Pioneer towers and center from Best

Buy for $280. The tower is short and could work with your bean bag seating.

What sub are you using now?

Don't worry about power and volume in a room that size, if it comes to volume vs accuracy in your budget, choose accuracy. Won't take much volume to fill that room. And for pete's sake, hang some pictures (or better yet, diffusers) on those walls!

The Athena S.5 speakers are discontinued and I haven't seen a place where you can actually buy them. Would something else in the Athena product line work?

There is one used pair on Amazon.

You can also match the .5 series with the SCT series.

Would any of the floor standing Athena's voice match to this center channel? I have used the Audition series and liked those. Would these voice match or do I need to go with book shelf speakers?

Yes, it will work with the Audition or SCT series

nope, no problem. The Audition, C.5 and S1's all use the same 1" teteron dome tweeter.

I used to have the whole Audition line from the F1 towers to S.5 speakers. Sold them all back in January.

If you can find some F1 towers they would work with your C.5 center.

The LS-300 uses different drivers than the Audition, S1 and C.5 speakers. probably not a true match.

I'd like to go with the Audition speakers for the front and some bookshelf speakers for the rear. I have tried looking up the AS-F1, AS-F2, AS-F2.2, and AS-F1.1 but I can only find a reseller of the AS-F1.2s on Amazon and that is only for a single speaker that is damaged. I would really like some towers but it seems about impossible to find. If anyone knows of any resource that might sell these I would be very great-full.

since you only have one speaker why not start over and get two towers and a matching center? With the sales of Polk Montor 60's at newegg.com you can get a pair of those and the CS1 or CS2 under $400 for all 3.

If you want to go cheaper, look at the new Pioneer line at Best Buy. Two FS51 towers and the CS21 center will run you $280 plus tax.
