so here's my situation - me and a friend were setting up my sharp z15000 projector last nite and the mount that i bought wasn't up to the task. the sharp projector is not center-weighted. the lens is offset which throws the majority of the weight to that side. so i need a mount that can handle that. also, i need one that's pretty close to a flush mount - 3" inches would probly be perfect. and it's a drop ceiling, so i prefer that hte mount itself not be too heavy. i'd appreciate your suggestions.

You should not mount the ceiling mount directly to the drop ceiling. You need a mount that has a drop tube that will mount above the drop ceiling to solid beams and extend down through the drop ceiling. Check Mountdirect.com for a model that will work for you.

thanks for the response. yeah, we're using a piece of plyboard over the tile for support to bolt the mount to.

That might seem sufficient - I wouldn't trust it. Suspended ceilings aren't designed to hold that kind of weight.
