Looking for speakers that are not too bright or not too laid back.

Looking for speakers for 100% movie use. I listened to Klipsch at Magnolia after some dvd auditioning my ears were getting irritated. The Vienna Acoustics were too laid back for movies, low dynamics. Looking for speakers for that are between bright and warm.

Bookshelf? Floorstander? Budget? How many speakers?
Looking for floorstanding for fronts bipole sides and 5.1 setup. Budget $1500.00

I've had that system and I really liked it (the 450s are now my rears). The RS450s are a little power hungry, so I would recommend at least 100W/channel of power for them.
I also recommend the Rocket's from AV123.

also, check out Polk Audio, NHT, Paradigm, Energy
Since the OP asked for bipole side speakers (both sets of drivers are in phase with each other) that package may not fit the bill. The Rocket surrounds are dipole (the sets of drivers are wired out of phase). Depending on what you want to use them for, they could be too diffuse.

If you want to listen to multi-channel music, say, then bipolar or direct radiators for the surrounds are ideal. My personal tastes go towards either for movie watching too. The soundtracks are not mixed with dipole speakers, but direct radiating models.

Perhaps you could go with a pair of Rocket RS250 MKII bookshelves instead and mount them (as some people do). The price difference is negligible, and you can make your own package on their site and e-mail the request to av123. They will still give you a deal on multiple speakers.

That would be this package.

Dear Lord! Sometimes I think av123 is the only darn company in the world when i read this forum.

If you want to get speakers without hearing them based on someone's recommendation who has a vested interest in the success of the company go for it.

Also magnolia is overpriced, so beware of that store. Packages from paradigm, b&w, wharfdale, psb, energy, dynaudio, boston acoustics, JBL, infinity, mission, and others should be available to listen to locally. You might only get their "entry level" speakers for 1,500 but entry level continues to impress me from most reputable companies. It's your hard earned cash, so try and see what type of hi-fi shops are around and do some listening.
Who?

Are you going for two-channel or surround? Two channel is doable with your budget, 5.1 not so much.

I would consider raising the budget a bit. A certain level of refinement comes at a higher price.

Consider Dynaudio's brand new bookshelf line, the DM series. The DM line is a bookshelf type speaker with 10" woofer. And thats not a misprint, 10" WOOFER. It is capable of playing down to 35-40 hz!!! This will be an incredible home theater product. Dynamics with no fatigue.

If you want to keep it at or around 1500, try finding the new Monitor Audio Bronze Reference line. Wont give you quite the refinement of Dynaudio, but its a good bang for the buck. You likely wont find a better package at that price point.

irvin,

I wouldn't give up on Klipsch (or any other loudspeaker) based on a single audition not in your own home environment. Was the Magnolia room a controlled sound environment?

For purely home theater - bookshelf surrounds on stands or mounts, augmented with high performance subs might be your best bet.

Don't you think in fairness you should disclose that you represent a commercial dealer which sells those two lines mentioned?

My vote is for Monitor Audio Bronze as well. Nicely voiced speaker that might be *a little* on the bright side of nuetral, but no where near the Klipsch.
for 100% home theater check out definitive technology as well

Matt is the owner of The Audio Architect in San Diego, CA. This is common knowledge by many here especially on the speaker forum. Matt has been very helpful to many here including myself. You should read through the Dynaudio thread for one and you will see how much he has to offer in advice and expertise.

Yes he has products he prefers and if he happens to sell those product so be it. He is basically giving his opinion like many others here. But asking him to disclose the fact that he happens to sell a particular product is a little much IMO.
