Looking for the High Value Receiver

Looking for a High Value (Decent quality / low price) Receiver...

Budget: AV Receiver - $300 - $350 (not sure if the following req's would fit into this budget range).

Receiver Needs:

Last years model is more than fine...

7.1 Channel

HDMI: 3-4 Inputs, HDMI Audio, convert analog video to HDMI

Auto Speaker Setup (would be nice but not a must)

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

The ability to play back 5.1 movies in 7.1.

A/B Speaker selector (A= 5.1, B=2, A&B=7.1)

Satellite radio doesn't matter

iPod doesn't matter

A/B switch

Possible model that I've looked at that has a number of the above features: Sony STR-DH800

Any better idea's. Any thoughts on the Sony STR-DH800?

Thank you,

Steve

Run away from Sony.

Go with Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Harmon/Kardon, Pioneer. They all have models that are in your range and features.

A room EQ is a huge feature. Don't over look it.

I appreciate the reply, but could you elaborate why I should run away from Sony. Also, do you have any model #'s in mind for the 5 manufacturers you mentioned. Out of those 5, which are your top favorites?

Thanks,

Steve
From reading in different forums such as this one, Sony has a bad reputation for lower end "audio" equipment. I don't really know why that is and I don't know where that puts the Sony receiver you mentioned. I've read good things over the last couple years about higher end Sony audio products.

Their video products (i.e., tv's, etc.) do not normally have that reputation.

Don't really know the answer to your question. Maybe someone else?
Some of the budget Sony models seem low powered based on specs and some benchmarks I have seen. A generalization, I know. You can certainly look at the specs with your own eyes.
Offer Harman Audio $225 on their
254 AVR . Comes with free shipping. Page to the bottom and look for the BIN(buy it now) item with a make an offer button.

If there isn't a BIN item just wait a few hours -- it'll come back. Why they are doing this is beyond my comprehension. They've been doing this for about a week now. Puzzling.
