Hi everyone,

I've decided it's time to build my first HTPC, which I would like to fulfill the following basic requirements:
  • Small footprint (think Dell Zino-sized)
  • Blu-ray drive, and necessary hardware for smooth playback
  • Adequate power for smooth playback of 1080p flash, mkv, etc.
  • Built-in QAM tuner

I would probably also think about Bluetooth since I might get a Logitech DiNovo keyboard. Not sure if internal Bluetooth is available but I guess one of those tiny USB dongles would work as well. Also, I already have a copy of Win7 I can use.

I won't ask that anyone put together a component list for me (as I'm sure you get thousands of such requests). I'm just wondering if anyone has recently done a similar build, and if so would you be able to share your specs with me?

Thanks in advance.

I just got a zotac ion for my car PC. I love it, take a look at those.

I've had a dinovo for a long time and I like alot. It comes with a dongle. I use a universal remote as well. U may want to consider a case that has built in ir receiver.

Thanks for the responses.

Good to know that the DiNovo Mini comes with a dongle. Although, having looked it up, the dongle sticks out a LOT. I might want to go with a smaller dongle unless I can somehow throw the bundled one inside the case.

So the Gigabyte mini ITX motherboard I found on newegg is this:

Would this be the smallest type of case I could put it in, or is there anything smaller?

They make internal usb connections that attach to the usb headers, but couldnt you just plug the usb in the back of the computer where it would not be showing? You will have many connection including the coaxil so your computer will probably already be sticking out anyways.

Second that. That case is nice. Look at size specs. As long as it's mini itx and has your needs.

Yeah, that's true. Part of it is that I wouldn't want to risk the thing snapping off at any point, but it's probably mostly because I'm anal.

Cool.

Hmm... does anyone have another suggestion for a case? I've been looking at some smaller ones, but they all seem to have their problems. (Like some have unreliable PSUs and whiny fans. Others can't even accommodate expansion cards, which I guess I would need if I want an internal tuner.) Maybe this one would work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129080 And what do you guys typically do about WiFi? A USB dongle doesn't seem very elegant.

I appreciate the responses.
