After much research I have pretty much decided on the HC3000 for my first front projector, but would like to see it in action before purchasing. Does anyone know of a dealer in the Atlanta area that has one on display?

Also, I have a few questions about the HC3000. First, how many positions does the iris have, just on/off or are the more than 2 settings? Second, my biggest concern with the performance of the project is black level, so I was thinking of going with a gray HC screen with a gain of around .8. I will be using a 92" screen in a well light controlled room. Does the HC3000 have enough output to still give a nice bright image on this type of screen?

Thanks

1) The iris has only 2 settings (on/off)

2) The black level is good. Much better then in Panasonic ae900. I think the black level is one of the best in this price class.

3) I have got 92" Projecta Pro Cinema Matt White Screen. I saw this model on Hight Contrast Screen too. The picture was very good, but i prefer rather Matt White (on Matt white I can see better colours, but a little worse contrast). So, i can tell you, that if you really have well light controlled room, i'm sure that this projector will give you nice, bright and very beautiful image.

Mits hc 3000 is an old model. You should buy now HC3100. This model is better. It has a few settings of iris, better contrast and dark chip 3.

PS.

I am from Poland, so I do not know the dealer of Mitsubishi in Atlanta.

Thanks for the responses. I would go with the 3100 if it were available in an official capacity. I even looked into importing one, but no importer I could find has any in stock. Plus I don't like the idea of having to ship the unit over seas for repair.

The HC3000 will be my first front projector, so I am looking for good performance at a low entry cost. If front projection works for me, I plan on upgrading to 1080P once I can get one with great black levels/contrast for around $2500.

I have a HC3000 paired with a Wilsonart 92" DW DIY screen and I love this combination!

Best Buy sells the HC3000 and I have heard of some stores that have displays set up (usually the stores with a Magnolia HiFi inside) .

Best of Luck and it is a great PJ , at current prices I would say it is THE best price to performance 720p out there .

Best value for the price now. The HC3100 is a small step up but not available in US. The black levels are killer, but in your case I think a grey screen would be the better choice. Its a light cannon so a 92 inch grey screen will work well.

With the iris closed and still on low lamp mode on a 110 inch WilsonArt Designer White DIY laminate screen, (I have a batcave like theater) the black levels are great and the contrast is great. I would go with a traditional grey screen if I could not completely control the lighting.

The mojo in this 720p projector give a great picture that makes it competitive with many 1080p front projectors I have seen.

At its current prices, its a steal, blind buy or not.
