Looking to purchase my first HTIB.

I currently have a Sony KDL-W4100 40" and Sony PS3 for my Blu-Ray player. The dimensions of the living room are 11'6" x 16"0.

Looking to spend about $300-500.

Thinking about maybe the Denon AVR1611 with the Boston Acoustics CS2310B.

I just got the AVR 1611 and like it! Not so sure about the polk speakers though. With those ranges though on it you could set the sub xover to 100hz which should allow you to no localize the sound!

For your budget the Denon 1611 and Boston 2310 is a good deal. Also look at the Jamo A340PDD from Vanns for $199. Larger speakers than the Boston sats but also with a 10" sub.

I'm actually leaning towards more of the $300-$350 range if possible...Would the Onkyo HTS-3400 be a good deal for $320?

The Onkyo 3400 isnt bad bad it had a passive subwoofer as it would be much better to get a powered sub. You may want to look into maybe a "referb" system... still retains the factory warranty and save quite a bit of money such as....

The Denon 1611 and Boston 2310 is a better buy than the 591BA because you get better Boston Acoustics speakers in the 2310 package plus a 10" subwoofer.

Unless you get some incredible deal on the 591BA which is discontinued and hard to find.

$500 is ideally more than I'd like to spend, I think I'll go with the refurbished Onkyo HT-S3400 for $240.

Or you could look at the Yamaha YHT-395 which should be right at your price point. Powered sub-woofer, multiple High Speed HDMI inputs/output, optical in, non-proprietary speaker connections (wire, clip-in), etc. The speakers are ok but they are something that can easily be upgraded later. 100W per channel at 8 ohms or 80W per channel at 6 ohms. Just another option to consider.

I also own the SLS for my bedroom and that speaker set is very good- for around 200 dollars for the speakers, you get 10 4 inch drivers and 5 ribbon tweeters!
