Looking twards next upgrade. What do you expect 4 years from now?

And what should we hope for in the under 3k price range? Or how long before we should expect these things?

I am expecting 1080p, 15000:1 without DI( like the JVC ), better blacks.

Should we expect a projector without a bulb like today. I would so love being able to use the projector like a normal tv turning it on and off like that. I would also hope for much darker blacks, it would be amazing to have CRT or close to crt blacks with a digital projector. Now I am not to sure about those things as seems that first they may go to high priced projectors.

With the incredible Sony VPL-VW50 currently available for $3500 on-line, I think we can expect some amazing things in the next _two_ years.

Best,

Brian
In 4 years for a DLP? 1080p, LEDs instead of a bulb (much longer life, NO cool-down time), very short throw, lens shift, etc. Well, that's what I want, anyway, so that I can bump my screen up from 92" to 120", which would just barely fit in the room. I think in four years all the talk will be about the first projector to meet that description hitting the $1500 - 2000 range.
4 years?!?!? Man, that's a lifetime in the CS industry...

Laser-based projectors with incrediable resolution(s) and street pricing sub-$1500. Everything else will be going the way of the do-do bird.

Now... I'll put my trusty crystal ball back on the shelf until it's needed again.

My hopes are somewhat less than what reality will probably produce but I am hoping that DLP will put lens shifting onto ALL of their PJ's. Add 1080p, a low price-point and DC7 with CRT black levels and I would be satisfied. I'm also hoping that something happens in the PJ screen market to make companies like Stewart start manufacturing good screens at a lower price point.

In both cases (lens shift on DLP and lower price points for companies like Stewart), we are talking about addressing the needs of a HUGE buying market. I for one can't believe that they haven't taken advantage of this market segment yet.
Wireless HDMI and LED bulbs. You will start to see projectors at higher resolutions than 1080p that upscale 1080p. Hopefully 3 chip DLP will be cheap (although convergence problems will be there so its a tradeoff). Lens shift for all DLP would be nice too.
