There is also the ROM-Mark. But it is only helpful if the protection remains intact.

If they are decrypting the data into the clear, then that would work on BD too.

And you know this how?

AIUI BD+ is like a safety switch. If a title or player is hacked BD+ will prevent those titles from player. So because it hasn't been needed, it hasn't been used?

Blu-ray also has the Watermark

Right, Rom-mark IIRC. That won't stop rips, but it will stop identical copies of the disc from being made. A rip would play back because the protection would have been defeated but identical copies just copy everything but leaves it encrypted

Oh, and put hmurchison on ignore. It will raise your IQ.

I was right! I didn't lie to him. Ok I'm not going to provoke because it's not cool. I just had a little blowback to administer.

Blu-ray and HD DVD both are, and will remain vulnerable to a degree. No matter how sophisticated their copy protection gets, there is always a genius hacker out there who would break it! It is childish delusional to believe that they can create a system that cannot be hacked. Anything created by man can be undone by man. Simple as that.

Keep in mind, AACS has NOT been hacked. A player has been.

So, since this isn't a BD player, BD is still safe. But, the same problem on the BD version could have the same results.

To TRANSFER from HD DVD to BD would require some transcoding. Hardly trivial. The other way is generally impossible (HD DVD can't handle BD's bandwidth).

So, the only possible sync currently for these hacks, IF THEY ARE REAL, is an Xbox 360 or a PC.

How can there be so much misinformation accrued so quickly in one thread?

BD+ isn't in effect yet, so it's a non-factor at the moment. When it starts getting used, it will be a force; the entire encryption system will be able to be switched up title to tile, production run to production run... to whatever extent that the publishers wish to put forth the effort.

ROM-Mark is in effect, and it essentially prevents pirates from pressing discs, because it's presence is required for pressed discs to playback in a BD device. Pressed discs are the major source of illicit copies in the world of DVD, so whether or not a BD title eventually gets hacked, that layer of protection preventing it from being mass produced will always be there.

Okay so it is impossible to rip the film from the encryption? The encryption is the film/content? So the two are glued together and can never be seperatted? The actual movie is removed from the encrytion and once it is burned without the encryption the player will not play because there is no key?

So BD+ will not allow any content to play with the ROM mark? Or without the ROM mark? Or will the watermark keep the encryption from decrypting?

I am glad we cleared that up!

You are correct, it is the player that was compromised (PowerDVD 6.5). The same thing can be done for PowerDVD 6.6, so Blu-Ray is in the same boat. It's not much of an issue since AACS was designed with this in mind, so it is an opportunity to demonstrate the superiority of AACS over DSS.
