Lost DisplayConfigX Settings - New Mac OS Upgrade

619 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Squished Squirre
I would think someone else here is using DisplayConfigX like I am to use their Mac Mini as an HTPC on a non digital TV (mine is a Sony 36" Tube, a beauty). But when I upgraded to 10.4.8 system this week it completely wiped out my settings that were installed for many different video resolutions, all had been customized to get ride of overscan. I have a full bootable backup of the machine, so I guess I can look them up by rebooting, but if someone here knows a way to simplay copy a preferences file or somthing, that would be cool...

If you fire up DisplayConfigX, and click on the install tab, it tells you where the overrides file is stored for the selected monitor.

It is the part after the "rm " in the removal instructions.

It should take the form of something like this:

/System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-xxx/DisplayProductID-yyyy

Where xxx and yyyy depend on the monitor. (Make sure you have the correct monitor selected at the top of the DisplayConfigX window so it shows you the matching filename.)

You should be able to copy that file from your backup... make sure to match the privs once the copy is done.
