Can anyone help me with this? I get a loud pop or crack sound (don't know the proper term for it) from my kenwood amp which is connected to my computer with the digital out. The sound card is an onboard AC97 chip on a Asus P4P800E-Deluxe. At first I thought I might be having a heating problem because my computer and amp are in a small storage room, however, I left the door to the room open last night and the problem never went away. It's really anoying, especially when watching a movie, scares the hell out of me when it pops.

Interesting. I'm not sure what causes that. I can tell you that I had similiar random pops from my Kenwood 7070. I never had mine connected to an HTPC, just your basic amp, dvd player, etc.

I think I had it happen a half dozen or so times before I ditched the AVR for a different brand. I'm real curious to see if anyone knows what this is.

Anyone?

Go to the volume menu under windows and disable everything other than main sound, see if it goes away. Then start re-enabling things one at a time till it comes back. I'm guessing it's the microphone jack (I've always had trouble with those no matter what sound card, they seem to pick of noise easily). That is what I would guess your problem is.

When do u get the cracks and pops? During play of a source or coming back from a pause, and/or when switching sources?

I had the same problem with my Audigy 2 and Turtle Beach 5.1 when pausing/playing a DD5.1 track thru spdif. I had read an article online somewhere regarding this issue, and it has to do with the sync of packets of the ac3 stream (or something like that :p). I recently took out my audigy 2, and went with the onboard spdif output, and with that, the problem went away. It has to do with the way ur receiver and sound card syncs up i guess. Hope this helps. :)
