What are your top (10?) speaker characteristics. This thread will come up with our top ten (or more - or less) important speaker characteristics. I'll start another thread on measurements that correspond with these characteristics. Please - no brand or product specific references.

From basically 1 to 10:

1. Neutrality/Voicing (in the room)

2. Balanced frequency range

3. Macrodynamics

4. Microdynamics

5. Image placement/depth/stability

6. Placement Flexibility

7. Amp friendliness

8. Total output level

9. Size/Looks

10. Reliability

perhaps a poll would very quickly get you some statistical data.

"The Must have Check List"

1. Size

2. Voicing/uniformity

3. Smile Factor (combination of voicing/uniformity and looks)

4. Price

5. Reliability (comes with the package really)

1. Voicing...if it's fatiguing or overlybright I don't want it. Everyday life isn't fatiguing to the ears, so why should a speaker be?

2. Imaging/depth/soundstage...this is the "wow" factor for me, the ability to produce a realistic soundstage and realistic image placement. That 3D ability to feel as if you are watching the performance unfold before you is something I think most people want.

3. Dynamics...both macro and micro are important.

4. Balance...don't want one portion of the sound over whelming the others.

5. Size/looks...sound is what matters most, but it's a great bonus if the speaker looks the part as well.

Nothing else on the list comes into play for me.
