I have a TV in my bedroom which Im trying desperatly not to introduce a reciever into the mix ...


I would like to hook up some external speakers (closer to my bed so that my daughter cant hear them while my wife and i watch movies) but the tv does not have regular high level speaker outputs - it only has an optical output.


I was thinking i could connect the cable box's low level (RCA Jacks) to some kind of adapter to provide the speakers an input - AND i would need this adapter to have volume control WITH IR control ...


After reading my post I think I might be out of my mind thinking this would work but figured it was worth asking anyway ...

What you seem to want is an integrated amplifier with remote. It is essentially the equivalent of a receiver without the tuner. It might be easier and cheaper just to buy a cheap receiver.

How about higher quality PC speakers. They have the amps built in.

Most sound bars have IR control and can perform this function at reasonable cost. The only issue is that they are designed to sit next to the TV.
