Wouldn't it be possible to have a bulb that put out only ~CRT level lumens, yet lasted much longer than typical 1K-2K hour bulbs?

I assume there must be something I'm missing since a bulb like this should be possible. Would it have important flaws that a 200-400 lumen CRT doesn't have?

I know some of these new projectors have economy settings where the bulb is dimmer yet lasts longer. Couldn't projector makers have even lower level settings for those of us who want say... a 70" 80" picture from a $2,000 3 lbs. projector, yet are willing to have a somewhat darker picture if it means that we're not buying a couple $400 bulbs every year?

yes get a higher rated bulb (wattage) and drive it less hard. In most cases it will last longer.

Take and engine and only subject it to a max of 1000 rpms it will too.
