I am new at setting up my home for WHA, without cat5 or high tech distribution hubs.

So what I understand is you would normally run the zone2 RCA pre-out to a centralized multi zone amp, and from the zone amp you run a 4 conductor speaker cable to a volume control to attenuate the volume, then pair of 2 conductor speaker cable to the speakers?

Is it a waste of energy to have the amp set to the max (well the max you'd normally listen at) then attenuate it?

Or should there be a local amp in each room?
