In the post above pulled from the master burn-in thread, someone mentioned that lowering contrast greatly reduces grayscale performance. My steaming rat calibration has resulted in medium contrast levels and brightness and I've noticed no discernable loss in grayscale performance. So, is this legit?

That statement is a bit broad and vague. Turning down the contrast to the point where whites are not being crushed is optimal and will yield the best overall picture. I think it's obvious that turning contrast down too low can ruin the PQ. If your happy with the PQ, then I really wouldn't worry about it.
