Anyone use this door for their HT.

I have a room within a room design and was planning to use for both doors as they are not very expensive.

Anyone care to share any experiences or provide other options for me?

Thanks!!!

I can't offer any input other than check Home Depot. They were much cheaper for me there. Mine just came in and I haven't picked them up yet.
Yes! Great door for the money! It took 7 weeks to get mine as Masonite was behind(they make the doors using OC core). Its very heavy! I got the extra thick one (1 3/4") and got a nearly 6' flat jam to accomodate my doulbe drywall inside and out. I also bought a small one for my equipment room. I cant imagine many doors that would be significantly better, esp. for the money. Just do the tap test...its very dead...I think you will be satisfied with this door...
Can anyone provide some details on this door, like the brand and price?

Can I just walk into a Lowe's and ask about the safe n sound door and they'll know what I'm talking about?

I didn't see it on their website.

Thanks.

Doug
The Lowes Safe n Sound door is actually made by Masonite and it's on their web site. That site also shows the available styles. A number of companies buy the door and put it into a "pre-hung" frame. I think Tru-Built is the brand at Lowes and HD use Relia built or something like that i may have them mixed up. I used 10 of these doors last summer in my basement and it was a 10 day special order lead time.

I have over 40 of those doors in my house as it is the basic paint-able solid core door of choice used by builders in this area. Masonite has a variety of styles. the ones I picked have an embossed wood grain surface that make the door look like painted wood. If you are into Faux painting you could basically make it look like any wood with the texture. The doors also come smooth and you need to be careful when you order them. One came to my house with the wrong surface.

The doors come in a variety of single and double configurations. I have 18, 28 and 30 inch single doors and some 48 inch doubles. I also have three pocket doors in the house that match.

As for price as I recall they ranged from $75 ish for a single to $125 for a double pre-hung with the latch hardware installed.

Thanks everyone! Looks like this will work great!
BigMouth...

$75-125? That can't be right.

I was quoted ~$380 for a 60in double door for solid wood with a T-astrigal and top/bottom bolts installed. The safe-n-sound was $6 less.

I'm going to order my door later today, I thought I was going to try to get a 10" custom jab, but instead I'm going with their 6+" jamb and will do a "step down" casing to deal with my 10" thick wall.
hey manny, whatever it's worth: double doors are superb. communicating doors will outperform almost any conceivable single slab door.

good thinking

I'm pretty sure he's talking about two doors in the same opening. One opens into the room, one opens out of the room.

yes, yes, you have a knack for saying things very clearly, toe, i'm obliged
OK,

What do you expect from someone who saw the Cream play at the Filmore in SF? I sat in upper seats but I didn't inhale.

Pulled the invoice. A basic 30 inch, prehung, pre-drilled for lockset pre-hung Safe and Sound from L was $103

A 48 inch Wide double , with the T rail and locking latch at top , pre-drilled was $273.

I paid $135 for a 36" Safe N Sound pre-hung door at Lowes. It did take them 6 weeks to get the darn thing in, but finally got it.

Not sure if it's a regional thing, but this same exact door was $220 for me at Home Depot. As I said earlier, I did check both Lowes and HD and HD was much cheaper. And they sell them under the Masonite name. My doors came in 10 days (ordered 8 of 'em).
We got ours from HD - they were running a sale on them. We ended up using it as a pocket door for the HT entrance. Paid way less than $200, but it was almost 2 years ago.
I should of gone to HD. Pam I also got a plain door for a pocket it was $75.
I'm curious what people are doing with an interior door to prevent sound leakage (outside of the door itself). Any special threshold treatment, insulation, etc.? One of the advantages of an exterior doors is they are designed to with a better seal (for thermal purposes), which would translate to better acoustic sealing.

Use Zero International automatic bottom door systems:

Combined with their head and jamb gasket seals:

BigmouthinDC is ancient!:D
Ancient? Yea, I saw the Beetles play live, but had to take a bus because none of us had a license. But you guys missed one hell of a party in the 60's. You could hitchhike any place in the county and not worry. And you probably never had the chance to sit in front of a TV and see if your number was picked to be sent to Vietnam. (I had 126).
